FEATURE ARTICLE
Five Reasons to Love Podcasting
by Jeff Herring
1. Listen to what you want
Podcasting allows you to choose from a tremendous amount of information
and entertainment and listen to exactly what interests you. Unlike radio,
you do not have to wade through something that doesn't interest to you to
listen to what you want. Most podcasts don't even have commercials!
2. Listen when you want
Unlike radio, you do not have to arrange your schedule to listen to the
show you want. It is ready and waiting for you when it is convenient for
you to listen.
Could not attend our monthly practice building teleseminar? Then we invite
you to visit http://privatepracticemarketingpodcast.com
to subscribe to our podcast and listen at your convenience.
3. Listen where you want
When you download your podcasts into your computer, you can then load it
into your iPod or other MP3 player, or burn a CD, then listen to what
you want, when you want, where you want. You can listen in
your car, at the gym, indoors, outdoors, wherever you want.
4. Anyone can have an audience
Podcasting really levels the playing field for those that want to be on
the air with their own show.
5. Podcasting topics and choices are unlimited
If you have an interest, there is probably already a podcast for you. If
not, you can create one!
What other medium can offer you these same advantages?
Note: As we were preparing this article, Parade Magazine,
an insert in most Sunday newspapers across the U.S., featured an article
about podcasting titled Now

FAQ About Podcasting
1. WHAT IS A PODCAST?
Kind of like a radio show you subscribe to and download onto your computer.
Most are free!
2. HOW DO I LISTEN TO A PODCAST?
Once on your computer, you can listen:
- Through your computer speakers
- On your MP3 player (ipod or others)
- Burn the audio file onto a CD
Once you've experienced the freedom and variety of podcasting, you'll never
look at your radio the same way again!
3. HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO A PODCAST?
For the easiest solution, we recommend downloading and using one of these
free programs (no iPod needed)-
Or, you can subscribe on your Google Home Page, My
Yahoo, My MSN, My
AOL and any other f`ree or paid subscription service that allows you
to subscribe to RSS feeds.
4. WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
There are lots of websites and services devoted to podcasting, but the best
place we've found is Podcast
Alley
5. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Podcasting is huge and growing fast, to the point that it is making a dent
in radio broadcasting. People like the freedom of listening to the program of
their choice away from their computer any time they want, such as working in the garden, in the
car, working out at the gym, etc. Just as websites on the internet make text
content freely available and easy to access, podcasting is making audio content
freely available and easy to access.
Over 30 million people have mp3 players (such as ipod, creative zen,
iriver, etc) and a computer. Current research reports that 29% or more
owners of MP3 players have tried podcasting. According to Forrester Research,
12.3 million households will be regular podcast listeners by 2010. Podcasting
is an effective way to increase your network very affordably. I have a
colleague who started a podcast in April 2005 and had 1700 subscribers
in one month, over 6000 in three months. No website or newsletter can
touch that. Once you have an audio file to broadcast, podcasting is free-
can't beat that!
